Measure – Transducer Connection Issues and Incorrect Free Field Calibration

Quick summary

Measure is intermittently not detecting transducers, or free-field calibration levels are incorrect. This guide walks you through transducer reconnection, free-field recalibration, and a manual hardware reset if needed.

⚙️ Before you begin

  • Make sure Measure is open and running.
  • Have a thin pin (e.g. a straightened paperclip) available in case a manual hardware reset is needed.

Step 1: Reconnect transducers and run hardware diagnostics

Are all transducers shown as connected in Measure?

  • Yes → Proceed to Step 2.
  • No → Take these steps:
  1. Disconnect each transducer and reconnect it firmly.
  2. If available, try alternative cables.
  3. Run the Hardware Diagnostic Test from within Measure.

Check if the issue is resolved. If yes - you're done ✓. If no - continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Recalibrate free-field speakers

Is the free-field speaker output calibrated correctly at 80 dB for pure tone audiometry?

  • Yes → Proceed to Step 3.
  • No → Take these steps:
  1. Recalibrate the free-field speakers to 80 dB for pure tone audiometry.
  2. Retest the output:

    • If soft or no noise is present, recalibrate again.
    • If there is no sound at all, test on a different PC and verify the REM speaker settings.

Check if the issue is resolved. If yes - you're done ✓. If no - continue to Step 3.

Step 3: Perform a manual hardware reset

Have all previous steps failed to resolve the issue?

  • Yes → Perform a manual hardware reset of the audiometer board:
  1. Disconnect all cords, transducers, and the power supply from the board.
  2. Locate the small reset hole on the back of the board.
  3. Insert a thin pin into the reset hole until you feel a light click.
  4. Hold the pin in place and reconnect the power supply while still holding.
  5. Wait for the device to blink, then release the pin - do not disconnect the power.
  6. Once the board has reset, recalibrate the free-field speakers to 80 dB for pure tone audiometry.

Check if the issue is resolved. If yes - you're done ✓. If no - proceed to the escalation path below. * ❌ No → The issue is resolved - no further action needed.

🔺 Escalation path

If none of the above steps resolved the issue, contact Auditdata Support.

Please have ready:

  • Device model and serial number
  • Device firmware version
  • Software version
  • Your account name and contact details
  • Which steps above you already tried
  • Any error messages or unusual behaviour observed

✅ Expected outcome

After completing these steps, transducers should be consistently detected and shown as connected in Measure. Free-field speakers should emit correct sound levels at 80 dB, detectable via REM probe.

📝 Additional notes

  • Any Measure device returned from repair must be recalibrated for free-field speakers to 80 dB for pure tone audiometry before use.
  • Any board reset - manual or software - also requires free-field speaker recalibration.
